Epoxy flooring in Huntingdon, PA starts with the concrete underneath, and much of it is old. In the borough's older houses, a basement slab may still carry old paint or tile glue. Garage floors in town and out toward Raystown Lake see winter road salt and muddy gear. Downtown, older storefronts and offices often have tile to pull before any coating goes down.
SF Huling is based in Lock Haven, and our Central Pennsylvania area takes in Huntingdon, the county seat. Epoxy floor coatings lead our work: flake and metallic systems under a durable clear topcoat, for homes and businesses. Our second line is floor demolition and prep, including tile removal and grinding a slab down to bare concrete. Call or text (570) 772-2721 for a free estimate.

Many of Huntingdon's houses have stood for generations. Census Bureau estimates show the median home in the borough was built in 1942. Nearly half of Huntingdon's homes were built before 1940. Across Huntingdon County, housing is newer, with a median home built in 1972.
More than 8 in 10 homes in the borough were built before 1980. Only about 1 in 25 homes in the borough was built since 2000. Over the decades, slabs that old tend to pick up patches, paint, glue and old tile.
Epoxy needs clean, open concrete to grip, so those layers have to come off. Our concrete grinding and floor prep takes the slab down to bare concrete and fills minor cracks. Old 9 by 9 tile or black glue in a house this age gets tested before anyone grinds it. Our post on asbestos floor tile removal in Pennsylvania explains why.
Huntingdon grew up where Standing Stone Creek flows into the Juniata River. The area around town flooded in 1889, 1936 and 1972, but not much of the town itself.
Our basement process is the same anywhere in town. Every basement slab we coat gets a moisture check first. Epoxy cannot bond properly to a wet slab or in high humidity.
Once the slab passes, basement floor epoxy goes down over freshly ground concrete. In a laundry or storage area, a flake floor gives the room a speckled, textured look. For a finished room, metallic epoxy floors add pigments that form patterns within the coating.
Huntingdon has warm summers and moderately cold winters. In the cold months, snowmelt and road salt ride into the garage on your tires. Bare concrete soaks up that salty water, and the slab ends up stained and gritty.
After grinding, garage floor epoxy covers the slab with one seamless, durable finish. Slush sits on top of the coating, and a squeegee pushes it out the door. In a garage that works hard, flake epoxy floors make sense. We broadcast colored flakes into the wet base coat, and a durable clear topcoat locks them in.
Huntingdon is the largest town near Raystown Lake, which is the biggest lake entirely within Pennsylvania. Much of the land around it is not open to home building, so summer homes sit back from the waterfront. After a day of boating or fishing, a coated garage floor wipes clean of mud and lake water.
The Huntingdon Borough Historic District takes in the central business district and the residential streets around it. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, it includes 521 contributing buildings. Most are two- and three-story brick or frame structures from the late 1700s to the early 1900s. The borough is also home to Juniata College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1876. Amtrak's daily east-west train stops at the station on Fourth and Allegheny streets. Older shops and offices around town often have tile or VCT on the floor. That tile has to come up before a coating goes down.
We pull the tile and scrape off the glue or thinset under it. Then we grind the slab clean. SF Huling brings three decades of commercial flooring work to the job. On the clean slab, commercial epoxy flooring gives a downtown shop or office a seamless floor that mops clean.
