Bellefonte sits on old concrete. More than a third of the homes in the borough were built before 1940. Those basement slabs dust, patch over and go damp through a humid Nittany Valley summer. Garages get the opposite trouble, since PennDOT pretreats the roads around town with salt brine every winter.
SF Huling is an epoxy floor coating and floor demolition company based in Lock Haven. Bald Eagle Valley runs from us down to Milesburg and Bellefonte, so the drive is short. We coat garage floors, basement floors and commercial floors, and we handle pulling the old flooring out first. Estimates are free, so call or text (570) 772-2721.

Bellefonte averages around 44 inches of snow a year, well past the national average. PennDOT crews pretreat routes across this district with salt brine before a storm lands. I-99 and Benner Pike get it, and so do the back roads. If you commute the 12 miles to State College, your garage takes that brine daily.
Brine soaks into bare concrete and stays there. Freeze and thaw then work the surface apart from the inside. You see pitting, gray dust and scaling near the door first. Hot tires peel cheap garage paint off in sheets after one summer.
We grind the slab, repair minor cracks and spalls, then build the coating. Most garages here take a full-broadcast flake system under a durable clear topcoat. The flake hides patchwork in an older slab and adds grip when snow melts off the car. Our installed work includes gray full-flake two-car garages.
The Bellefonte Historic District holds 296 contributing buildings. Georgian, Italianate and Second Empire homes fill the blocks around Allegheny and High streets. The courthouse on High Street goes back to 1805, and the district's oldest house dates to 1795. Basements under houses that old rarely got a proper slab the first time.
Water is the second half of the problem. Big Spring puts out about 15 million gallons a day right in Talleyrand Park. Spring Creek runs through the middle of town on its way to Milesburg. Basements near that water table hold humidity, and vapor pushes up through the concrete in July.
A basement floor coating outlasts basement floor paint on a slab like that. We test the floor for moisture before we pick a system, then grind it open so the coating bonds. Flake works well down there and brightens a dim rec room. Our work includes a tan full-flake finished basement.
The Benner Pike corridor has been filling in for years. Car dealerships, retail and restaurants line the stretch between Bellefonte and I-99. Amazon bought more than 100 acres in Benner Commerce Park in 2025. Restek runs a chromatography manufacturing plant on Benner Circle.
Downtown is a different kind of floor. The old Pennsylvania Match Company complex is the American Philatelic Center now. Storefronts in the historic district often sit on slabs that have carried several coverings already. Service bays, stockrooms and back-of-house areas all need a floor that cleans up.
We coat commercial and industrial floors around Bellefonte for shops, garages and retail spaces. The company is backed by about 30 years of commercial flooring experience. We plan the work around how your building runs and go over the sequence up front.
Most coating jobs around here start with removal. Old tile and thinset, glued-down vinyl, carpet and pad, and laminate all have to come up. In a pre-1940 house that can mean two or three layers stacked on one slab.
We take the flooring out, clear the debris and grind the slab flat and open. From there it can take one of our coatings or new flooring installed by another trade. Tear-out on its own is a normal job for us.
The newer subdivisions out in Benner, Spring and Walker townships bring different work. Attached two-car and three-car garages on recent slabs need less repair and more prep. The older villages like Coleville and Axemann run the other way. Both ends of that range are routine.
