Winter is hard on a garage floor in the Bald Eagle Valley. Trucks come off Route 150 and Route 220 loaded with road salt and brine. That mix drips onto the slab, sits in the low spots, and works into the concrete. Freeze and thaw cycles then push the surface apart from the inside.
Bare concrete shows it first. The floor gets dusty, then it starts to pit and flake near the door. Garage floor paint from a big-box store peels worse, because hot tires lift it right off. A coating that bonds into the slab is what holds up here.
We start by diamond grinding the slab so the coating has something to grip. Cracks and spalled spots get filled as part of that prep. Then the base coat goes down, flake gets broadcast into it, and a durable clear topcoat locks it in. Full-broadcast flake is the standard garage system here, in one-car, two-car and three-car sizes.
Mill Hall was settled in the early 1800s, and the borough still holds a lot of old houses. Old houses mean old basement slabs. Most went in before anyone put a vapor barrier under a floor. The concrete dusts, it darkens in patches, and boxes left on it pick up damp.
