Epoxy Floors and Floor Demolition for Lewisburg Homes and Businesses

Lewisburg is an old town with old floors. The downtown historic district alone counts more than 850 contributing buildings, and many date to the 1800s. Basement slabs under those houses have been down for decades, and they show it. Out back, garages take road salt and brine all winter.

SF Huling coats concrete floors across Central Pennsylvania, and Lewisburg sits inside that area. We are based in Lock Haven, and epoxy coatings are the main work: garages, basements, shops and warehouses. We also tear out old tile, carpet and glued-down vinyl and grind the slab before a coating goes down. Estimates are free, so call or text (570) 772-2721.

Garage floors in Lewisburg take a beating every winter

Salt is the problem. PennDOT crews in this district wet high-volume roads with salt brine before a storm hits. That brine rides home on your tires and drips onto the garage floor. Bare concrete soaks it up, then freezes and thaws until the top layer flakes off.

Paint does not hold up either. Hot tires pull cheap coatings off the slab in strips. Garage floor epoxy works differently, because grinding opens the concrete and the coating bonds into it. Salt and melted snow sit on the surface, and they wipe up.

Lewisburg garages vary a lot. Behind the Market Street houses you find small one-car garages on old slabs. Out in East Buffalo and Kelly townships, newer homes have two-car and three-car garages. Both take a coating, and the prep work is what changes.

Basement floor coating under Lewisburg's older houses

Published housing data for the 17837 ZIP counts roughly 1,600 homes built in 1939 or earlier. That is a lot of old basements. The slabs down there are often rough, dusty and patched. A coating gives you a hard surface you can sweep, and it brightens a dark room.

Moisture is the thing to check first. Humid summers push vapor up through a slab even in a dry year. We check the concrete before we quote a basement floor coating. A floor that stays wet is not ready for one.

The West Branch Susquehanna runs right past the east edge of town, and Lewisburg has flooded. Hufnagle Park downtown sits where houses came down after the 1972 Agnes flood. Big water also came through in 1889 and 1936. Once a slab is dry and sound, a flake floor works well in a rec room, laundry or workshop.

Floor tear-outs and slab prep in Lewisburg

A lot of Lewisburg work starts with removal. Old houses carry layer after layer: carpet over vinyl, vinyl over tile, tile over a slab or a wood subfloor. Roughly a third of the homes in the 17837 ZIP are rented, and rental floors get replaced more often.

We pull tile and thinset, carpet and pad, hardwood, laminate and glued-down vinyl. Tack strips, staples and adhesive come up with it. Debris handling is part of the job. What you are left with is a clean slab.

After the tear-out, the slab usually needs work. Old adhesive, thinset and paint have to come off before a coating will stick, and diamond grinding does that. Minor cracks and spalls get filled as part of the prep. New flooring, if that is the plan, goes in by another trade.

Commercial epoxy floors around Market Street and the Route 15 corridor

Lewisburg is a working downtown. Market Street storefronts sit in 19th-century buildings, and the Rollermills Marketplace fills a restored 1880s flour mill. Those floors get foot traffic six or seven days a week. Out on the US 15 corridor there are shops, service bays and back-of-house rooms with different problems.

Commercial epoxy flooring holds up to carts, pallet jacks and cleaning chemicals. It sweeps and mops clean, which matters in a kitchen, shop or retail back room. SF Huling is backed by about 30 years of commercial flooring experience. We plan the work around how your building runs.

Bucknell University sits at the edge of town with close to 4,000 students. The Wednesday farmers market on Fairground Road has run since 1937 and still opens year-round. Places like that keep floors busy. A coated floor is easier to keep looking right than bare or painted concrete.

Lewisburg FAQ

Questions From Lewisburg Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Lewisburg. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (570) 772-2721

Do you work in Lewisburg and the townships around it?
Yes. Lewisburg is inside our Central Pennsylvania service area, and so are East Buffalo, Kelly and Buffalo townships. We also work in Linntown, West Milton, New Columbia and Mifflinburg. Call or text (570) 772-2721 for a free estimate.
What drives the price of an epoxy floor in Lewisburg?
Size and slab condition drive most of it. An old basement floor downtown usually needs more grinding than a newer garage slab in East Buffalo Township. Old paint, adhesive or thinset adds prep time, and flake and metallic systems are different jobs. We look at the floor in person, and the estimate is free.
Will a coating work on the old basement slab in a downtown Lewisburg house?
Usually, yes. Slabs in the historic district are often rough, patched or dusty, and grinding cleans that up. The bigger question is water. If a slab stays damp or takes water in a wet spell, a coating is not the first fix.
Can you tear out our old flooring without coating the floor?
Yes. Floor removal and prep stand on their own as a service. We pull tile, carpet, hardwood, laminate and glued-down vinyl, then grind the slab if that is what you need. What is left is a clean floor ready for whatever comes next.
Are you based in Lewisburg?
No. SF Huling is based in Lock Haven and works across Central Pennsylvania, Lewisburg included. We handle residential and commercial floors. Call or text (570) 772-2721 and we will set up a look at your floor.
