Carpet removal is the fast part of most jobs. The carpet gets cut into strips and rolled out of the room. Then the pad comes up, along with the tack strips at the walls. Staples pull out of a wood subfloor, and glued pad leaves residue on a concrete slab.
Tile removal is slower. Ceramic and porcelain break up in pieces, but the thinset underneath stays stuck to the slab. That layer has to come off too, or the next floor sits on a bad surface. Tile floor removal is dusty work, so we keep the dust down while we cut and scrape.
Hardwood floor removal depends on how the floor was put down. Nailed and stapled hardwood pulls off a wood subfloor and leaves fasteners behind, so those get pulled. Glued hardwood holds tight and leaves adhesive on the slab. Floating laminate is the easy one and lifts row by row.
The floor you see is the top layer. Under it sits adhesive, thinset, underlayment or old felt paper. Flooring removal takes all of that off, down to a surface the next floor can sit on.
Older homes around Lock Haven often have floors stacked on top of floors. That can be sheet vinyl over hardwood, or tile over vinyl over a plank subfloor. Each layer adds work and changes what we find underneath. Soft spots, water stains and damaged subfloor show up once the old floor is gone.
The debris goes out as part of the tear out. Carpet, pad, broken tile and old boards get carried out and loaded up. Basement carpet that has been wet is a common reason to pull a floor. Some people skip new carpet and go with a coated basement floor instead.

When the tear out is done the floor is ready for the next step. That can be a commercial epoxy floor from us, or new flooring from another trade. Either way the old floor and the mess that came with it are gone.

We measure the space and look the slab over for cracks, old coatings and damp spots. Then you get a free estimate with the system and the color laid out.
Diamond grinding opens the concrete so the coating can grip it, and it takes off old paint, sealer and adhesive. Cracks and small spalls get filled before anything is coated.
The base coat rolls out over the prepped slab. On a flake floor the chips get broadcast into the wet base coat, then the loose flake gets scraped off.
A clear topcoat seals the floor and gives it the surface you walk on. Cure time moves with the temperature inside, and we go over the finished floor with you before we leave.
