Metallic pays off in rooms where the floor is part of the room. Finished basements and rec rooms are the common spot in a house. On the commercial epoxy flooring side it suits offices, showrooms, waiting rooms and retail floors. Those rooms see foot traffic and little else.
Working rooms are a different story. A garage takes hot tires, dropped tools and road salt all winter. A full-broadcast flake floor hides that wear and gives the surface some grip. It is common to put metallic downstairs and flake out in the garage.
The base color decides how the floor reads. A dark base gives deep contrast and heavy movement. A light base gives a brighter floor that bounces more light around a basement. We pick those colors with you before any resin is opened.
Prep decides whether the floor lasts. We grind the slab to open the concrete so the coating can bond. Old paint, glue and worn coating come off in that step. Minor cracks and low spots get filled once the floor is clean.
The base coat goes down first, in the color you picked. The metallic layer follows, with pigment mixed into clear resin. We work it while it is wet to pull veining and movement across the floor. It is done by hand, so no two floors land the same way.
A durable clear topcoat goes over the metallic layer. It locks the pattern in and carries the gloss. Coats go on in stages with dry time between them. The floor cures before the room goes back into use.
Gloss is the trade-off. A metallic floor shows dust, footprints and fine scratches more than a flake floor does. The pattern hides some of it, but a smooth surface reads every mark. A wet metallic floor is also slick, so mats at a door matter.
Grit is what dulls the shine. Sand and road salt tracked in act like sandpaper underfoot. Felt pads under furniture legs cover the rest. Sweep or dust mop often, then damp mop with a pH neutral cleaner.
Spot repairs are the other thing to know. The pattern is made by hand, so a patch will not match the floor around it. Damage is usually handled by recoating the area or the whole room. Strong sun through big windows can slowly yellow any clear coat over the years.

The base coat rolls out over the prepped slab. On a flake floor the chips get broadcast into the wet base coat, then the loose flake gets scraped off.
